2024 Scholarship Recipients

Adeline Wald, granddaughter of Chippewa Falls Federation of Teachers Local 1907 member Melanie Schaller, is the recipient of the 2024 $1,000 AFT-Wisconsin Memorial University Scholarship.  Adeline has been on the honor roll for all four of her high school years as well as a member of the Harmonics Show Choir.  Adeline plans to major in Journalism with the goal of becoming a publisher and help authors get their works out.  Adeline’s grandmother Melanie Schaller was a longtime member and president of Local 1907. Adeline understands the value of unions through her experiences with her grandmother as well as her own experience this summer when Leinenkugel Brewing was on strike.   People working together fighting for their rights peacefully and productively. Unions unite people from different background in order to fight for their common interests.  Unions taught Adeline how to fight for her beliefs and the right thing.

Alyce MacDonald, daughter of Menasha Joint School District, Local 1166 member Andrea MacDonald is the recipient of the $1,000 AFT-Wisconsin Kathy Monaghan University Scholarship. Alyce is a member of the National Honor Society and has achieved Academic Excellence throughout high school. Alyce is also involved in Link Crew, Key Club and DECA.  In addition to Alyce’s academic endeavors, she has also been a Track and Field team for her entire high school career.  Alyce plans on going to UW-LaCrosse and major in Elementary Education. Alyce understands that unions strengthen the overall health and safety of workers.  She has also seen, through her experience as a student, that she has benefited from labor unions because of the work they do to improve education for student-centered changes.

Jaydin Joles, son of Chippewa Falls Federation of Teachers Local 1907 member Jessica Joles, will receive a $500 AFT-Wisconsin Scholarship.  Jaydin has been a member of the Honor Roll Society as well as recognition for his science, social studies and English studies.  In addition to his academic achievements, Jaydin was also active in Jazz, Pep and Marching Bands as well as leading his own band. He also volunteers at various local events including Flags of the Fallen where he played an integral part the program commemorating fallen soldiers from the community.  Jaydin understands how unions impact the community by ensuring fair wages, safer workplaces, better benefits and much more.
